Romania – Bucovina – Day three
Our third
day in the North of Romania was dedicated to visit some of the most famous
monasteries of this part of the country.
For many
years I’ve seen the great photos of the painted monasteries, some of them even
being reward with the UNESCO classification.
The first
stop included the travelling even more to the north, very close to Ukraine,
were we went to the Putna monastery. I guess it’s one of the few places that is
not being inhabitedby nuns. The area is very well preserved, with a very
beautiful church in the middle, but this one has almost no paintings in the
outside, but inside the paintings are very pleasant. It’s one of the most
important places of orthodox pilgrimage in this area.
After
vising the monastery we went outside and it was time to search for the gecocache
located here. It took me much more time than I was expecting, and when I was
almost renouncing to it, the box appeared. In the mean time we saw a squirrel,
which stayed for sometime looking at us.
The road
now was to take us to Suceava, one there we wanted to meet the rest of our
travel buddies. In the middle of the way we stopped in a church that is being
restored.
In
Suceava we stopped in the center, there we stayed for awhile and went to search
for this box:
The next
stop was the Suceava fortress. In there we also went to visit a museum with
traditional houses from the Moldova region. The museum is very interesting,
once it show us not only the architecture, but also the way of living, with some representations of traditions.
It was
now time to visit two more places. The first one was the Dragomirna Monastary.
Very interesting place, unlike in Putna, here the monastery is the residence of
nuns. The church, in the middle, is whitout any paintings in the outside. At
the moment we couldn’t see a lake that is nearby, but due to some work, the
water was gone… for now.
Our last
stop was the Humor Monastary. Almost with the sun leaving us for this day, we
finaly saw a monastery with a painted church, both outside and inside. What is
more amasing in these places is that you can watch the prayers and daily
routine of the nuns in this place
