Romania – Bucovina – Day Four
After
visiting some beautiful monasteries in the previous day, and fallowing the
advice of a good friend from Suceava,
we went for a ride in a small old steam train
(the Mocanita Hutulca – Moldovita), which has a small circuit in this area.
If you
expect to find scenic views, with bridges, rivers and tunnels, this is not the
best option… but on the other hand, if you want to be near traditions, houses
made of wood, with beautiful gardens full of flowers, with people passing on
the streets on their daily life… you must experience this small trip.
After
this great train trip it was time to return to the monastery visiting, this
time to Moldovita.
We didn’t stayed much in here, but like the others we saw, in here you can see
a lot of people, that I don’t know if most of them are in any way tourist, or
just people with deep religious believes. It’s a calm place, even with so many
persons around, and the daily life of the nuns doesn’t seem to be affected in
any way with our presence.
Now it
was time to go up in and go to the mountains nearby, once the next stage was
the Sucevita
Monastery, that is located on the other side of the mountains. The views
are more than wonderful, with green, a lot of different shades of green. At the
top we stopped for a few moments, to see a monument dedicated to the builders
of the mountain road in the Carpathians, to search a geocache (
Bucovina
Trail - Moldovita), but most of all, to enjoy the landscape.
On our
way down, to Sucevita, the road was to tricky… but nice views!
Our lunch
was at the Popas turistic
BUCOVINA’s, which a great place for a stop, and also for staying for some
days, once the it’s very well preserved and with a lot of traditional meals.
Sucevita is
one of the most wonderful monasteries, with a very beautiful church and nice
surroundings. Here, the only thing that I regret was not to have the time to go
to one of the surrounding valleys, which show us all beauty.
This day
had one more touristic site, but it wasn’t our next destination. We went to MARGINEA BLACK CERAMICS
FACTORY, which is known for the traditional production of pottery which the
colour is black
Finally,
this day ended in Voronet,
also a very well-known monastery, with great paintings, both inside and
outside. It seemed to be one of the mostly visited places, with a lot of
tourists.
At the
evening, it’s good to have a good meal in the Gura Humorului.
