Geocaching and Traveling in Romania - Summer 2011 (1)

There are many things to write about, mostly because at the moment I have so many interests that is hard to choose the right subject. Unfortunately here in Portugal we have not many things to be proud, at the moment, so we have to try some other subjects.
Photography and Geocaching are some of the more interesting things that I like to practice at the moment, besides travelling, mostely here in Portugal. This Summer we had the chance to go to Romania, and in the 3 weeks we stayed there we had great moments, traveling from the South (to Bulgaria), to the North (Hungary) and Maramures. It was great to see some wonderful places that this country has to offer us. In fact, I think that almost in every country, in every place, we will be able to find nice things, nice views, and probably nice people.
Our trip was long ago planed, and as we don't have direct flights from Portugal to Romania, we had to make a stop in the middle of Europe, and this year we went to Paris, just for a few hours. It was a very pleasant stop there, once we had the time to leave a little bit the airport, Charles de Gaulle, and nearby there was a cache waiting to be found, Paris CDG Airport Central TB hotel (GC1K1W4). It was a very easy task, once in the cache page we can find all the information how to get there from every terminal of the airport, so it was great to find my first geocache in France.

Before we start our journey, I made some contacts with Romanian geocaches, to try to get some information about the best caches to search, once we are away from our home place, it's probably better to get information from the ones who know better the local reality.Almost every was very kind to write me back and to give me some clues about where and what to look for. Besides that they also scheduled a little event for us to meet and talk about geocaching Bucharest geocachers greet the visitors - part 2 (GC2ZM93). We met at a café near the Intercontinental Hotel, a very beautiful place in Bucharest. I was a very pleasant moment, specially because they still have the essence of the Geocaching, it's not like in here, where everyone is running for the numbers like crazy (sometimes I'm also included).
Geocaching is in Romania for many years, in fact one of the oldest caches is located in Bran Dracula's Castle (GC5D8), which wasn't found by me, yet... but the geocachers aren't many, at least for the moment. The country has a lot of potential places for this "sport", nice places that deserve caches. Probably when I will return in a near future there will be much more to visit.
