Romania – Bucharest to Bucovina – Day one
Romania is
always a destination that gives us beautiful landscapes, wonderful monuments,
and a culture still present on day life in many regions.
We’ve been
in the north of Romania, in the Maramures Region in the past, but now we decided to discover Bucovina. Departing from Bucharest, we had only 6 days
to travel and visit some of the most relevant and touristic sites. At this
point we can only say that it was great and very fulfil, but we are also aware
that many, many things were left behind…
Our first
stop was on the village of Berca, not far from Buzau, where we went to visit a small church / monastery (*). There we had a tour given by a
local kid, who was there during the summer vacations, along with his family,
who is working there.
After this unexpected
visit, we went to find one of the most interesting locations of the day, the Mud Volcanoes, which are located a bit north, and the roads
to get there are a bit challenging, even so, it deserves a lot to visit.
The
landscape at this location is different, and you see the mud coming from the
ground, bubbling and creating small craters (the highest I remember doesn’t
reach 2 meters high). A very interesting phenomena that is documented here.
Here I was
able to find the first geocache of this trip, not a traditional one, but a
earth cache. It was necessary to find the correct answers for the questions
concerning these volcanoes.
From the
volcanoes it was time to move on, now returning to the road and heading north,
once the final destination of the day was Piatra Neamt.
We passed
by Buzau, Focsani, and then we stopped in Marasesti, to see the mausoleum (unfortunately due to the rain at
the moment of our stop, we didn’t visit it inside, we just went for the cache)
Continuing
in the road, a little more up, we stopped once more, this time in Borzesti, near a museum and a church. Our main goal was
to find a geocache, that belongs to our friend adrian_cami, but unfortunately
there was no one at the museum, so we couldn’t ask for the box… even so, the
stop was great, once the church, very old, with more than 500 years old. It
was ordered to be built the Romanian ruler Ştefan cel Mare.
At Tirgu Ocna we stopped to find a cache, and we missed the Salt
mines at this
location, we expected to find them not far from here…
Then we
went for Slanic Moldova, unfortunately the weather wasn’t good,
it started raining a bit, because it was great if we could have a stop here and
enjoy the wonderful green landscapes.
On the way
back to the road we made a small stop, to find a cache in the Forest of Slanic
Moldova, it was a FTF, which is very difficult for me to achieve, but very
precious for the location and for being in the place that it was.
From here
the trip was almost driving and driving, always surrounded with beautiful green
images, with small horses, sheep’s, cows… chickens running along the houses… a
very rural living, that we almost forgot that it exists.
A great
journey started here… more to come.
* knowing
that in Romania the religion is very relevant, and also knowing the existence
of many monasteries, this time I really had the perception that it is still
something in full living. More Monasteries than we ever had here in Portugal,
with much more people devoted to religion than we have here (at the moment, and
we are a very conservative country when it comes to religion, but I honestly
think that only in ideas from the past…)
