Some geocaching… and some other stuff

In more than four years of this activity I must say that this gave me a lot of good moments and some new great experiences, but not everything was that fine. In some moments it wasn’t easy to find the right balance between the numbers that become a personal target and my family life. Not by the fact that I should achieve the number 1, no, I had personal goals, and these are only on my mind. At this point I must say that all of them were achieved.

Fortunately the balance between the geocaching activities is being reached, changing some of the aspects of what I want to do. Now this is not supposed to be the most important activity, this is supposed to be shared with cycling, with photography, and other personal interests. But, most of all, this will be always very far from the importance that I should and will give to my family and all the ones I care.

It is also with a lot of disappointment that I see more and more this activity becoming a vanity fair for some players, some that are already here for some years, and become gurus of the game, and newcomers, that want to show that they are the best… and for me that is not a problem, but this is just a game, and a game with no return payment. We can get any personal satisfaction of it, but should always be for what we achieve, not for what we do more than the others, because no one is obliged to play…

Here in Portugal, and I can say by the logs on my geocaches, the growth of this activity become exponential on the past years. With many people playing the game, we can see a lot of new good players… but on the other side, the not so good are also here.

Some conflicts and unpleasant situations have occurred. I know that everyone, on every side, has, at least a little bit of reason. But, there was no need for these disputes, unless, we want to show to ours pears that we are the best, no matter what. At the end, we might remain the only ones playing the game, so I guess it’s much better to leave all the conflicts behind and move on.

Hope to return real soon, with some geocaching stories and adventures, once since July I’ve been in some interesting places and have a few stories and some photos to share.
