Since I’ve heard about
the Freestyle Libre device, probably last year, I wanted to try this device /
sensor, to see if it could bring me some quality in the diabetes control.
Two weeks ago I had
the chance to try this device for the first time, and the impressions are very
good, once I had no need to damage anymore my fingers to see the glucose values
before the meals, or even when I was in the need to take some sugar because the
levels were too low.
The main advantage is
that with this device we can, at any moment, look at the actual glucose value,
but also expect a trend of what is coming, going down or up, with the need to
take more insulin or to eat something.
It was a bit disappointing
the fact that I couldn’t have all the glucose levels inside the targets (which
is something we see on the advertising, or even some people posting images,
with everything perfect…). The main reason that I think explains this is the
fact that in the past 15 years of dealing with this diabetes problem I haven’t
made the best decisions all the time.
Since the sensors are
expensive and only available for 14 days, they will be used not in a permanent way,
but hope the next one will give me some more stable moments.
For me, having
diabetes type 1, since 2002, with the administration of Rapid/Short Acting
Insulin and Intermediate/Long Acting Insulin, there is a lot of work to be done
to deal better with this problem, but for sure this device is one of the best
evolutions in the past years.
