The summer holidays are gone…
Almost
every year, usually in August, I have a period of holidays. This year wasn't
exception. Unlike the past, due to the economic situation of the country, that
also reflects in the citizens personal budget, our destinations were near home…
even so we had the chance to see great places, that come from the seaside into
the mountains.
In what
concerns to my favorite activities, taking photos, geocaching, biking or
trekking in natural places, I had a full summer.
One of my
objectives for this year was to achieve the full matrix of difficulty / terrain
in the geocaching activity, and one by one almost all the levels were filled.
At the end of July only 3 remained, and then one Saturday I decided to go for a
little big adventure, by myself (which I don’t recommend by the difficulty of
the visited places), and went to the top of two rocky formations, achieving two
more goals (O bico da ave and Rocha do Poio (FZZ)). Then in the middle of August it was time to join Bramble and go for
the final adventure - Homenagem aos Revisores - Serie 1-4 [Ourém] . This one had to be done with someone that has the skills
for doing rappel, and I’m not the one for doing that, at least alone… A very
special thanks for Bramble, without him this challenge wasn't done yet. By the
way, it was also time to go for a very hard cache, “Homem das Cavernas ”, let’s
say it was quite hard, but at the end you feel that it was great and deserved
all the effort you took on searching for it.
One of my
goals was also to visit a special place, the national park of peneda-gerês, and
there go for the “Fenda da Calcedónia ”. It was something that I wanted to do
for a long time, but it couldn't be done alone, once it is a long walk on the
top of the mountains. It was a family trip, so the hard was to find a way to go
there… fortunately I have an adventurer in the family and my older girl went
with me… it was a full morning, trying to go to the top… it was quite hard,
specially because I always choose the hardest way, but it was no time to give
away, and by the end of the morning I was on the top, enjoying the great views.
Like the Cantaro Magro in the Serra da Estrela, this one was one of the best
caches I ever found. Not by the quality of the container, but by the place, by
the adventure, but the sense of achievement, and for the wonderful 360º views.
On this
park we had the chance to discover great places, like:
Espigueiros de Soajo 
Fenda da Calcedónia
But August
wasn’t only a month for searching for caches, I also had the chance to place
some new ones, not far from the village where I was born. It’s a new PT, that I
didn't want to be just like a PT, but it is just like all the other Powertrails
full of caches…
One of the
best adventures that I had was to ride the bicycle on the top of the mountains,
not for a long distance, just 10Km, and not in a hard route, just for finding
one cache. The views in all the circuit were magnificent, that I already have
plans for doing it more times.
